Val Lafon is a South African artist who works primarily in oils on large canvasses. She graduated in fine art from Rhodes University in 1971, returning for further studies on several subsequent occasions. After a number of years of teaching art and painting, her book entitled The Elements of Art was published and is currently available on request through her publisher. Val held her solo exhibition in 1999 in Johannesburg and since then has participated in a number of professional exhibitions.
"I have always been driven to paint. Achieving a lucid moment in an image is sufficient and continual motivation for me. Viewers read these images according to their personal life experiences, so that they mean different things to different people. If my images enrich their lives then that is what the paintings are for, and that delights me."
